In honor of summer solstice, initially (and still) a pagan religion, I thought I’d show off my religion-nerdyness and talk about how Wicca reflects feminist values:
1. Wicca is the only religion (that I know of) that stresses the masculine AND the feminine in all things, particularly in the deities, people, things, and nature. None of that patriarchal religious bullshit.
2. Wicca (in my experience) is the most excepting of the gay community.
3. Wicca is all about connecting to nature, so you’ll find that a lot of wiccans are environmentalists.
4. Wicca also largely reflects the pro-sex side of the feminist community: sex and all other acts of pleasure are seen as sacred and not sinful.
5. Wicca also stresses the personal spiritual journey, free from judgment of others. You are free to make your own choices and go down your own spiritual path, not unlike the feminist view that all women should have a right to choose.
6. Wicca emphasizes positive thinking (especially when working spells), because negative thinking brings you (and your magick) down. Not unlike feminists, who strive to help girls think positively about themselves.
Happy summer solstice/midsummer/litha!!!!!!
great post!
ReplyDeleteYou are not practicing Gardnerian Wicca. What your practicing is what I like to call "New-Age Religion". Because believe me, is you read the history of traditional Wicca and the man behind it you would not be a Wiccan today.
